Best platform to monitor visitors coming from AI search engines
Which platforms show the visitors that arrive from ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI engines, with conversions, compared against GA4 and the usual trackers.
Most AI visibility tools answer one question: did an engine mention my brand? A different question matters more to a marketing lead. When people click through from an AI answer, who are they, where do they land, and do they convert? That is visitor monitoring, and it is a separate capability from prompt tracking. Many platforms skip it, which is why the best choice depends on whether you want a mention count or a revenue story.
Why GA4 alone falls short
You can build an AI referral report in GA4 by filtering on referrers such as chatgpt.com or perplexity.ai. It is free and worth setting up. The limits are practical. Referrers are inconsistent: some clicks arrive with no referrer at all and land in direct traffic. You see only the visit, not the prompt that caused it or the page that was cited. And you cannot see which crawler activity preceded the visit.
A dedicated platform fills those gaps by combining visitor data with citation and crawler data, so you can trace the path from cited page to click to conversion.
What to look for
- Identification of visits from multiple AI engines, not just ChatGPT.
- Conversion tracking, so traffic can be tied to outcomes.
- A link back to citations and the pages involved.
- Simple installation: script, tag manager or CMS plugin.
- Honest limits on what it can attribute.
Ranking
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is built to cover this end to end, which is why it ranks first. Its visitor analytics shows AI-referred traffic and conversions from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Kimi, Mistral and others. You install a lightweight script, the GTM template or the WordPress plugin.
What sets it apart is the context around the visit. 360 Insights joins crawler logs, citation clicks and AI-referred visits per page, so you can see that a given page was fetched by an AI crawler, cited in answers and then visited. Search Insights adds Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data for comparison with classic search traffic. Citation analytics shows which pages and domains engines cite, and Agent Analytics logs IP-verified crawler requests.
Plans: Explore is free (ChatGPT only, 10 prompts). Essential is $95 a month with 200K visitor events. Professional is $245 with 1M events and crawler logs. Business is $579 with 10M events. Agency Kick-off is $199 a month with 500K events, and all agency plans include visitor analytics. Monthly plans carry a 7-day trial.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ lists Google Analytics and Search Console connections on its pricing page, which suggests it can pull traffic context in from GA. It tracks brand appearance, produces a GEO score and gives action recommendations. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits. We found no dedicated visitor analytics that attributes AI-referred traffic on its own, so for revenue questions you would still lean on GA4.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI reports on AI agent and bot traffic, which is a different thing from human visitors who click through. That is useful for understanding crawler behavior. Core is $250 a month. For human visit attribution we found nothing published.
4. Profound
Profound lists Agent Analytics and sells agents for reporting and workflows. Its pricing is custom Enterprise, with an earlier estimate of about $40k a year that we have not re-verified. It suits large marketing organizations.
5. Ahrefs Brand Radar and SE Ranking
Ahrefs Brand Radar covers AI crawler activity and Reddit and YouTube sources, with the AI Visibility Index from $199 a month. SE Ranking offers an AI Search add-on from EUR 79 a month on top of its Core plan. Both are good if you already live in those suites, but neither is published as a visitor-conversion tool.

Who should pick which
Growth and performance marketers who need to show that AI search produces visits and conversions should start with Promptwatch. The deciding factor is the visitor analytics paired with citation and crawler data, which most trackers do not have.
Teams happy with GA4 and mainly wanting optimization ideas might pair a GEO tool like AthenaHQ with their own GA4 segments.
Enterprises with a broader marketing suite budget can evaluate Profound.
Suite loyalists can stay inside Ahrefs or SE Ranking and accept lighter attribution.
What AI referral tracking cannot do
It cannot see every visit. Some AI clicks arrive without referrer data, and some users read an answer and later type your name into a search bar. Treat AI-referred numbers as a floor. The useful signal is trend and conversion rate, not a perfect count. If you see AI-referred visitors converting differently from other channels, that is worth acting on, but check sample size first.
Setting it up
- Install the script, GTM template or WordPress plugin.
- Define your conversions so traffic can be tied to outcomes.
- Review which pages AI visitors land on and compare against cited pages.
- Fix pages that get cited but lead visitors nowhere useful.
Start there, keep GA4 running in parallel as a cross-check, and use the platform for the story GA4 cannot tell.
