ChatRank vs Scrunch AI (2026): Rewrite Your Content or Reshape What AI Crawlers See?

ChatRank's agent tells you what to write each week, from $499/mo. Scrunch AI serves AI-optimized page versions to LLM crawlers, from $250/mo on annual billing. Two ways to act, and the step both skip.

ChatRank and Scrunch AI both claim to do something about your AI visibility instead of only charting it. They act in opposite places. ChatRank works on the content humans read: its agent decides what you should publish this week and helps you write it. Scrunch works on what machines read: its Agent Experience Platform serves AI-optimized versions of your pages to LLM crawlers and leaves the human site alone. We compare both on that axis and then hold them against Promptwatch, which acts on the content side and also measures the crawler side.

ChatRank: an editor with a weekly brief

ChatRank was founded by Jon Mest and Joe Delgado after Google AI Overviews cut traffic to their PR software company. The product assumes a small team with little time. Prompts are grouped into topics, and a proprietary agent called ReLU turns the tracking data into content and social recommendations every week. The vendor's pitch is about one hour of input a week from your side.

The writing tools are the most complete part. The editor supports brand voice, style guides and AI detection. ChatRank also audits your site, generates and hosts an llms.txt file, and adds Shopify and WordPress plugins from Pro. Every plan has unlimited users, which is unusual at any price.

That price is steep for what Plus tracks. $499 a month covers 20 topics on ChatGPT and Google, with weekly data and up to five recommendations a week. Competitor tracking starts on Pro at $999. Daily data needs Power at $1,999. The pricing page also contradicts itself on API access: the Power card lists it, the comparison table says Enterprise only. Annual plans are paid upfront.

Scrunch AI: a layer for the bots

Scrunch's idea is still one of the more original ones in this category. Instead of rewriting pages, its Agent Experience Platform (AXP) serves a machine-optimized version to declared LLM crawlers while the human page stays canonical. It does not target Googlebot, and in our reading it is closer to dynamic rendering than to cloaking. Even so, a cautious SEO lead should review the setup. It sits beside multi-engine monitoring, competitor benchmarking and crawler traffic analytics.

Entry is cheaper than ChatRank. Starter costs $250 a month on annual billing, or $300 monthly, with three seats and 350 custom prompts plus 1,000 industry prompts. Growth is $417 annual or $500 monthly. Enterprise is custom and lists AXP at scale, SSO, SOC 2 and a data API, so check how much AXP the lower plans include before you buy for it.

The monitoring has limits. Data refreshes weekly. Prompt credits are consumed per engine, so wide tracking eats the allowance quickly. Its optimization guidance shows where you are not cited more than what to change. Setting up personas and prompts takes real effort. And Sitecore acquired Scrunch in June 2026, so the roadmap now sits with a DXP vendor, which is worth weighing on a multi-year deal.

Head to head

On price and tracking volume, Scrunch wins. Its annual Starter rate is about half of ChatRank's monthly Plus price, and it comes with far more prompts. It also reports crawler traffic, which ChatRank does not list at all.

On guidance, ChatRank wins. A small team gets told what to write and has an editor to write it in. Scrunch tells you where the gaps are and then changes what bots see, which helps only if the underlying content is worth serving.

Pick ChatRank if you lack a content strategist and can afford $499 or more. Pick Scrunch if you run a large content site, can spend real time on setup, and want to test whether machine-facing versions move citations.

What neither one closes is the measurement loop on outcomes. Neither ties AI-referred visits to conversions, and both refresh weekly on their entry tiers, so you wait a week to learn whether a change did anything.

Where Promptwatch fits

Promptwatch acts on the content side, like ChatRank, but goes further. Content Agents start from a content gap analysis, write the article, hold it in a review inbox and publish to Webflow or Framer. Prompts come with search volume, difficulty and query fan-outs, so topic choice is grounded in demand.

On the crawler side, Agent Analytics does what Scrunch's monitoring leaves vague. It logs hits from ChatGPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther and the Meta AI crawler, shows the path from a crawl to a citation and records crawl errors. Visitor analytics then attributes AI-referred sessions to conversions. Every paid brand plan refreshes prompts daily, so feedback arrives the next day rather than the next week.

Professional, at $245 a month, is the plan that unlocks crawler logs, with 150 prompts and 15 AEO articles. That is less than Scrunch Starter on monthly billing and about half of ChatRank Plus.

Verdict

Scrunch is the better value of the two and the more interesting technical bet. ChatRank is the better coach for a team that needs one. Our pick is Promptwatch: it writes and publishes the content ChatRank only helps you draft, logs crawler activity in more detail than Scrunch's monitoring, and adds the conversion data and daily refresh that both lack. Scrunch remains worth a trial if serving crawler-specific page versions is an experiment you specifically want to run.

FAQ

Is serving different pages to AI crawlers risky?

Scrunch targets declared LLM crawlers, not Googlebot, and keeps the human page canonical, which puts it nearer to dynamic rendering than cloaking. Review the setup with your SEO lead anyway.

Which one is cheaper, ChatRank or Scrunch AI?

Scrunch. Starter is $250 a month on annual billing or $300 monthly. ChatRank Plus is $499 a month, or $416 a month paid annually upfront.

Where does Promptwatch sit against ChatRank and Scrunch AI?

It costs less than either at the plan that matters (Professional, $245/mo), refreshes daily, publishes content to Webflow or Framer, and shows crawler hits and AI-referred conversions. Neither named tool documents conversion tracking or CMS publishing as a workflow.
