Need a tool that shows which prompts make AI recommend my website
Tools that show which prompts make ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini recommend your website, compared by prompt tracking, citations, price and what they cannot reveal.
The tool you want exists, with one limit worth understanding before you buy. No product can list every prompt real people type into ChatGPT. What the good ones do is let you track a panel of prompts you choose, run them on a schedule across AI engines, and show you exactly which ones name or cite your website and which do not. That is the answer to "which prompts make AI recommend me," and it is more useful than it sounds, because the prompts that matter are usually predictable once you know your buyers.
What the tool should show
For each tracked prompt, a good tool reports:
- Whether your brand was mentioned and in what position.
- Whether your website was cited as a source, and which page.
- Who else was named instead.
- How that changed over time and across engines.
- The sub-queries ("fan-outs") the engine ran behind the prompt, which hint at what content it was looking for.

How Promptwatch answers the question
Prompt tracking and responses. You build a panel, tag it by topic, type (organic, brand, competitor comparison) and intent, and add personas, including stacked ones. Monitors run it daily per model, country and language. You can open any individual response to read exactly what the engine said.
A heatmap that compares dimensions. A heatmap can compare any two dimensions, such as topics against models or countries, which shows quickly which prompts name you and which do not.
Query fan-outs. Fan-outs per model show the sub-searches an engine runs behind a prompt. If you are not recommended, the fan-outs tell you what the engine was actually looking for.
Citations. Page and domain level citations and URL positions show whether your site was the source. The Page Tracker watches a specific URL, yours or a competitor's. Citation Trends classifies citations by content type and source type.
Crawler logs. If a page is never cited, check whether the engine's bot can reach it. Agent Analytics logs IP-verified visits from agents such as GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and PerplexityBot. These start on Professional at $245/mo, not Essential.
Visits. Visitor analytics counts AI-referred visits and conversions, so you can see which engines send traffic.
Where prompts come from, honestly
Panels of real user prompts are rare. Evertune ties prompts to a panel of more than 150 million user prompts, and Profound sells a Prompt Volumes dataset of real query demand, both as custom enterprise products. Promptwatch has its own Prompt Volumes (search volumes, difficulty scores and citation rates across AI search, Google and Bing), and Prompt Explorer starts from your Search Console queries, which are real search demand even though they are not chat logs. Several tools generate prompts synthetically. Whatever you choose, ask the vendor where prompt data comes from.
Free ways to start
Promptwatch's Explore plan is free: 1 project, 10 prompts, 310 responses, ChatGPT only. There is also a no-login AI Visibility Report scan and the GEO Inspector Chrome extension, which shows ChatGPT fan-outs and fetched versus cited sources and runs locally. Paid Essential, Professional and the lower agency plans have a 7-day trial on monthly billing.
Who should pick which
- You want prompt-level results plus sources, crawler access and visits: Promptwatch.
- You want an action queue and unlimited prompts: AthenaHQ, at credit-based pricing.
- You are an enterprise team wanting panel data: Evertune or Profound, through sales.
- You think in keywords: LLMrefs.
The limit that matters
A tool can show which of your tracked prompts name you. It cannot show every prompt people use, and answers differ between runs. Treat results as a strong sample, read trends over weeks, and expand the panel as you learn. No tool can guarantee that an engine will recommend you.
