Tools to monitor product recommendations in AI assistants
Tools that monitor product recommendations in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and other AI assistants, compared on coverage, shopping data and what they cost.
When a shopper asks an AI assistant "what is the best standing desk under a certain budget" or "which CRM suits a ten-person team", the assistant answers with a short list of products. If yours is not on it, you never see the lost sale. Monitoring those recommendations is now a distinct job, and a handful of tools are built for it.
This guide covers what to look for, the main tools, and which suits which kind of seller.
What monitoring product recommendations involves
It differs a bit from tracking a brand name. You want to know:
- Which products the assistant names for a buyer question, and in what order.
- Whether your product is described correctly: features, positioning, who it is for.
- Which sources the assistant cited when it recommended a rival.
- Whether shopping surfaces (product carousels) feature your items.
- Whether any of this sends visitors who buy.
Answers vary run to run and by country, so a single check proves little. You need a stable prompt set run daily, and a tool that keeps the response text.
The tools
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the strongest all-round pick because recommendations are only half the story, and it covers the rest.
On the monitoring side it runs daily prompt panels across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI from the real interfaces, with Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok through APIs. Prompts can be typed as organic, brand or competitor comparison, and personas let you phrase them as different shoppers. Competitor visibility, share of voice and heatmaps show who wins which question.
For product-specific work, AI Shopping covers ChatGPT shopping carousels and Amazon Alexa product results, with own-catalog upload. Shopping Insights and the product tracking views start on Business ($579 a month). Page Tracker lets you follow specific URLs, yours or a competitor's.
For the "why", citation analytics show which pages and sources engines used, including Reddit and YouTube. Crawler logs (Professional and up) show whether AI bots can read your product pages. Visitor analytics connects AI-referred visits to conversions.
Pricing: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95, Professional $245, Business $579, agency plans $199 to $799.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ tracks how a brand appears in AI answers, with a GEO score and an Action Center. The pricing page lists Shopify and Webflow integrations. Starter is $295 a month for 3,600 credits across 11 models, where a credit equals one AI response.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI offers monitoring with audits and an Agent Experience Platform. Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and four LLMs.
4. Profound
Profound is an enterprise platform with agents for content, demand and PR. It lists a seven-day trial and custom Enterprise pricing, and our catalog has noted an estimate of about $40k a year.
5. Product-focused tools
Ranketta is built for stores and D2C brands and works at the SKU level. Its pricing page, read on 1 September 2026, starts at 29 euros a month for the Tracker plan (2 models, 30 prompts per model, 1 country). Siftly splits into Answers and Shopping products and tracks four engines, with no published prices. Both are narrower than a full visibility platform.
6. Suite add-ons
Semrush AI Toolkit and Ahrefs Brand Radar suit teams that already use those suites for keyword data.

Who should pick which
- You sell products and want recommendations, sources, crawl access and sales in one place: Promptwatch.
- You run a catalog-heavy store and mostly want SKU-level tracking: Ranketta is worth a trial.
- You want GEO actions and can manage credit-based usage: AthenaHQ.
- You care about what crawlers see: Scrunch AI.
- You are already on Semrush or Ahrefs: try the add-on first.
Plain prompt trackers such as Otterly.AI and Peec AI are available too. They cover mention monitoring and stop there, so product-level diagnosis is up to you.
How to run a product recommendation panel
- List the questions a buyer asks, from broad ("best X for Y") to specific ("X vs Z").
- Add budget, use case and persona variants.
- Track the competitors you actually lose to.
- Review the cited sources for any prompt where you are absent. Review sites, forums and comparison pages often decide the answer.
- Check that AI crawlers can read your product pages.
No tool can guarantee a recommendation. What it can do is show where you stand and why, and Promptwatch is the one that follows the trail from mention to citation to crawl to sale.
