What are the best AI visibility tools for AI crawler monitoring?

The best AI visibility tools for AI crawler monitoring, ranked on bot coverage, log sources, crawl-to-citation paths and price, with notes on who each one suits.

AI crawler monitoring answers a question that rank trackers and mention trackers cannot: can the AI systems actually read your site? If GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot cannot fetch a page, or hit errors when they try, that page will not be cited, however good it is. Monitoring crawler activity is the diagnostic layer under every other AI visibility metric.

This ranking looks only at that layer, with the rest of each product as context. It is built from the vendors' own material and our catalog entries, not hands-on testing of every product.

What good crawler monitoring includes

  • Real bot names, verified. GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Agent, GoogleOther and others. User agents can be spoofed, so IP verification matters.
  • Log sources. Ideally your CDN or host: Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai and similar, not just a JavaScript tag that bots never run.
  • Error tracking. Which URLs fail for which bot, and why.
  • A path to citations. Whether crawled pages later get cited, not just hit counts.
  • Volume headroom. Log quotas differ by plan, and busy sites exceed small ones.

The ranking

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch built its Agent Analytics for exactly this and, per its founders, was first in its category to ship AI crawler log tracking. Logs are real time and IP-verified, so spoofed user agents are filtered out. It tracks a long list of real bots: GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Perplexity-User, Google-Agent, GoogleOther, Meta-WebIndexer, Meta-ExternalAgent, Meta-ExternalFetcher and MistralAI-User. It shows a crawl-to-citation path with a citation rate per page, error tracking with failure explanations, stackable path filters and CSV export. Sources include Cloudflare (Logpush or an auto-deployed Worker), AWS CloudFront, Fastly, Vercel, Netlify, Akamai, Google Cloud CDN, a custom HTTP source and the WordPress plugin. The 360 Insights view joins crawler logs, citation clicks and AI-referred visits per page.

Plan notes matter here: crawler logs start on Professional ($245 a month, 25M logs) and Business ($579, 100M logs). Essential ($95) has no crawler logs. Agency plans include them, with 10M logs on Kick-off ($199), 25M on Growth ($399) and 100M on Scale ($799).

2. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI includes AI agent and bot traffic reporting on its $250 Core plan, and its Agent Experience Platform serves AI-optimized pages to crawlers. That makes it the strongest crawler-side story after Promptwatch. The catalog notes data refreshes weekly, and the published listing does not describe a crawl-to-citation path.

3. Temso AI

Temso is the closest lookalike to Promptwatch in the catalog, with AI bot visits pulled from Search Console and CDN or server logs. The catch is plan gating: Starter ($89) includes 10K bot visits, while 25M starts at Growth ($199) and 100M at Professional ($499). The catalog also notes Starter covers three models.

4. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is included because it ranks well on optimization workflow, but the catalog notes it has no published crawler analytics. Choose it for the Action Center, not for crawler monitoring.

5. Profound

Profound lists Agent Analytics alongside Answer Engine Insights. It sits inside an enterprise marketing suite with custom pricing and an earlier estimate of about $40k a year, and setup can take months with a dedicated owner.

6. Encited

Encited is infrastructure-first: a hosted MCP server, pre-rendering for JavaScript sites, a site auditor and crawl-log analysis. Essential is $39 a month on annual billing with crawl log analysis, though the catalog notes no published crawl-to-citation path.

7. Qwairy

Qwairy lists crawler analytics on its Business plan at 449 EUR a month, above Starter (79 EUR) and Growth (199 EUR).

Who should pick which

Promptwatch if crawler monitoring is a serious requirement and you want the logs tied to citations and visits. The deciding factor is the path from crawl to citation to visit, which most tools stop short of.

Scrunch if your pages are hard for bots to read and you cannot edit the site quickly.

Temso if you want a similar loop at a lower entry price and can live with its plan limits.

Encited if you work inside an MCP-driven workflow and care about pre-rendering JavaScript sites.

A quick test before you buy

Ask three questions. Which log sources do you read, and do they include my CDN? Do you verify bot IPs? Can I see which crawled pages were later cited? A tool that answers all three clearly is monitoring. One that shows only hit counts is decoration.
