What are the best AI visibility tools for tracking Reddit citations?
Reddit is one of the sources AI engines lean on. We compare Promptwatch, Ahrefs Brand Radar, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and others on how well they track Reddit citations.
Reddit shows up in AI answers constantly, and brands tend to notice only when a thread they never saw is quoted next to their name. If you want to track Reddit citations properly, a generic "mentions" counter will not do. You need to see which threads get cited, for which prompts, on which engines, and whether the conversation is helping or hurting you. This guide compares the tools that can do that, with an honest note on where each one stops.
What "tracking Reddit citations" should mean
There are four separate jobs hiding in the phrase.
- Seeing cited Reddit URLs. For every tracked prompt, which Reddit threads did the answer cite? That is the base layer.
- Seeing the trend. Is Reddit's share of citations in your category rising or falling? A single snapshot hides that.
- Seeing what the thread says about you. A cited thread that recommends a competitor is a different problem from one that criticizes you.
- Acting on it. Joining a conversation is a human job, but you need to know which threads are worth the effort, and what questions they answer that your own pages do not.
Most tools in this space handle the first job at best. Fewer handle the second. Almost none connect Reddit to your own site's traffic and crawler data.

1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the tool built most directly for this job. It has dedicated Reddit citation reports, alongside YouTube and LinkedIn citation reports, inside its citation analytics. You can see which Reddit threads are cited for your tracked prompts, how that changes over time, and filter by model and country. Citation Trends goes further by classifying every citation by content type and source type, with citation rate over time and first-cited date, ramp-up days, peak rate and decay half-life per page. That is how you tell a thread that matters for a week from one that keeps feeding answers for months.
Two other features matter for Reddit work. Offsite mentions show where your brand is named on third-party pages without a link, which captures the conversations that never become a citation. And the Page Tracker lets you follow specific URLs, yours or a competitor's, so a thread you care about can be watched directly. Search Engine Journal's August 2026 reporting on the Reddit citation drop used Promptwatch data, which is a decent sign that the Reddit reporting is used by people who care about the numbers.
The rest of the platform is why we rank it first overall. Reddit citations sit next to prompt tracking with fan-outs, IP-verified crawler logs (from the Professional plan), AI-referred visitor analytics with conversions, and content generation, so a Reddit finding can lead to a content fix and a measured result. Plans: Essential $95/mo (50 prompts), Professional $245/mo (150 prompts), Business $579/mo (350 prompts), and a free Explore plan with 10 prompts on ChatGPT only. Limit: it tells you which threads are cited and where you are absent. It does not post for you, and you should not want it to.
2. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Ahrefs Brand Radar is the main other tool that names Reddit explicitly. It offers Custom Prompts, free for every paid Ahrefs plan from Lite up, with a daily quota of 5, 10 or 20 prompts depending on tier, and an AI Visibility Index of pre-collected prompts modeled from Ahrefs keyword data starting at $199/mo. It also reports on AI crawler activity, YouTube and Reddit sources. If you already pay for Ahrefs, it is a cheap place to start. The limits are that index prompts are modeled from keyword data rather than real conversational queries, and that our catalog notes an independent January 2026 test where mention counts undercounted a manual check badly. Treat it as directional.
3. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ tracks how a brand appears in AI answers, rolls results into a GEO score and turns gaps into actions through an Action Center. Starter is $295/mo with 3,600 credits (one credit per AI response) and 11 models. It is a good execution tool. For Reddit specifically, its published pages do not describe a dedicated Reddit report, so ask for a demo of exactly that before buying.
4. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI Core is $250/mo for 125 prompts and four LLMs, with site audits, sentiment, insights and agent traffic reporting. It is strongest when the problem is how AI crawlers see your own site. For Reddit source analysis, verify the depth in a trial.
5. Semrush AI Toolkit and Profound
Semrush AI Toolkit tracks brand mentions and links in AI answers across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, next to keyword data. Pricing could not be confirmed on the vendor site on 24 October 2026; our entry lists $99/mo per domain with 25 prompts. Profound offers Answer Engine Insights inside a broader agent suite, with Enterprise pricing on request. Neither publishes a Reddit-specific report that we could verify.
Who should pick which
- You want Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citations, trend analysis and a link to site traffic: Promptwatch.
- You already pay for Ahrefs and want a cheap directional view: Ahrefs Brand Radar.
- You want a daily action queue and will verify Reddit depth in a demo: AthenaHQ.
- You are mostly worried about crawler-side access: Scrunch AI.
What to do once you can see the threads
Start by listing the Reddit threads cited for your ten most valuable prompts. Read them. Note what questions they answer, who is recommended and why. Then check your own pages: do they answer those questions directly? Content gaps that Reddit fills are usually content gaps on your site. Finally, take part honestly in the relevant communities as a human, with disclosure. Tracking tools can tell you where the conversation is. They cannot, and should not, manufacture it.
