What is the best AI search platform?

What is the best AI search platform? It depends on whether you search with AI or need to be found by it. We cover both and rank the platforms for brands.

"Best AI search platform" means two different things, and mixing them up is why so many roundups disagree. Some people want the best AI search engine to use: ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot. Others, usually marketers, want the best platform to measure and improve how those engines talk about their brand. This guide answers both, and is honest about where we have evidence and where we do not.

Meaning one: the best AI search engine to use

We do not publish benchmark scores for ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot or Google AI Mode, because we have no sourced test data for them here, and an invented ranking would be worse than none. What we can offer is a way to choose.

Run the same ten questions in each engine you are considering. Use questions from your own work: a current-events query, a product comparison, a technical how-to, a local lookup. For each answer, check four things:

  • Does it cite sources you can open?
  • Are those sources the ones you would trust?
  • Does it admit uncertainty, or bluff?
  • Is the answer still right when you ask it again an hour later?

Different engines will win different categories. Anyone who tells you one engine is best for everything has not run the comparison on your questions. Many people end up using two or three.

If you run a brand, the engines above are where buyers now ask "which tool should I use" or "who is the best provider". The useful question becomes: which platform shows me how I appear, why, and what to change? On that question there is evidence to compare, because vendors publish features and pricing.

What a good platform covers

  • Prompt tracking across the engines buyers use, refreshed daily.
  • Citation analytics showing which pages and domains the engines rely on.
  • AI crawler logs showing whether the bots can read your site.
  • Visitor analytics tying AI-referred visits to conversions.
  • Content or action tooling that closes the loop.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the only platform on this list that covers all five. It tracks prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI through real interfaces, with Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok tracked via API. Citation analytics go to page, Reddit and YouTube level. Crawler logs are IP-verified. Visitor analytics attribute AI-referred traffic and conversions. A Content Agent plans, writes and publishes with a review inbox. Pricing: free Explore tier (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95, Professional $245, Business $579 a month, agency plans $199, $399 and $799.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ offers a GEO score, an Action Center and a content optimization agent. A free Essential plan has 300 credits and Starter is $295 a month.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts on four LLMs, with site audits, and its Enterprise tier adds an Agent Experience Platform.

4. Profound

Profound sells agents for research, content and reporting alongside answer tracking. Public pricing shows a trial and a custom Enterprise plan.

5. Newer and narrower options

Ceyo starts at $39 a month billed yearly and captures answers from real interfaces. Mentionable starts at 79 euros a month for seven engines. Am I Cited is credit-based from 50 euros a month across eight engines. None of the three publishes crawler logs of the kind Promptwatch offers.

Who should pick which

If you are a reader choosing where to ask questions, test with your own prompts as above. If you are a brand or agency, start with Promptwatch: the deciding factor is usually the crawler logs and traffic attribution, which trackers lack. Pick AthenaHQ or Scrunch AI if a brand-level GEO score matters most. Consider a narrower tool only if budget is the constraint and you accept monitoring without the rest.

No platform can guarantee that an AI engine recommends you. Judge each by the evidence it gives you and the work it helps you do.

A short trial plan

Write 25 prompts your buyers might ask. Run them in a free tier or trial for two weeks without changing your site. Read the citation report and ask whether the sources match your market. Then look for crawler activity on your own domain, and for AI-referred visits that reached a conversion. If a tool cannot show either, it is a tracker, not a platform, and you should price it as one.
