What software monitors brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude?

Software that monitors brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude, compared by engine coverage, how Claude is tracked, pricing, and what happens after the mention.

A growing set of tools runs your buyer prompts through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude on a schedule and records whether your brand is named. They differ in two ways that matter more than the feature list: how they query each engine, and what they let you do with a mention once you have it.

The first difference is easy to miss. ChatGPT and Perplexity have consumer search products that a tool can monitor as a person would see them. Claude is more often sampled through an API. That is a legitimate method, but an API answer is not identical to what appears in a live interface, and a good vendor will say which one you are getting.

Quick answer

For monitoring plus the data to act on it, start with Promptwatch. It tracks ChatGPT (Search) and Perplexity through the real interface, and covers Claude (Haiku 5.5) via API alongside Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Microsoft Copilot and others. It then adds citation analytics, IP-verified crawler logs, AI-referred visitor analytics and content tools. Dedicated alternatives worth evaluating are AthenaHQ and Scrunch AI.

Read the Claude column carefully. If Claude monitoring is a hard requirement, the plan you need may be a higher tier than the headline price implies.

What to check beyond the engine list

Prompt allowance. Credit systems count one prompt on one engine as one unit, so tracking one prompt across three engines costs three. Scrunch's Core plan includes 125 unique prompts and 5,000 responses a month. Promptwatch Essential has 50 prompts and 6,000 responses, Professional 150 prompts and 18,000 responses.

Refresh rate. Promptwatch runs prompt panels daily per model, country and language. Check any competitor's default cadence before assuming daily.

Mention rules. A mention is not always obvious. Promptwatch has a Brand Book whose analysis instructions decide what counts, plus brand aliases, which stops a product nickname being missed.

Sentiment and position. Being named last in a list of eight is a different outcome from being recommended first. Promptwatch records sentiment (a 1 to 100 score per response, with a weekly AI summary) and Position in Answer alongside Share of Voice.

What happens next. Mention data is only the start. Where did the engine get its information? Which of your pages are cited? Are crawlers reaching them? That is where the end-to-end tools pull ahead.

Picks by situation

You want mentions plus the means to improve them. Promptwatch. Its citation analytics shows page and domain level citations plus Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports. Agent Analytics logs real bots such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot with IP verification. Visitor analytics shows AI-referred visits and conversions. The Action Board and Content Agent (Business tier) cover execution.

You want an action queue and can pay Starter prices. AthenaHQ has an Action Center and content optimization agent. The catalog notes no published crawler-log product.

You are an enterprise team that wants a managed relationship. Scrunch AI or Profound. Profound is sold as marketing agents more than as a tracker.

You already live in Ahrefs or Semrush. Brand Radar and the AI Toolkit are convenient add-ons. Their own entries note that prompts are modeled or AI-generated approximations of real queries, so treat the mention numbers as directional.

You want the cheapest way to see a first result. The Explore plan from Promptwatch is free for 10 prompts and 310 responses, ChatGPT only. LLM Pulse starts at €49/mo with weekly tracking.

Limits that apply to every tool

These tools sample. A mention rate is an estimate from the prompts you chose on the days they ran, and results vary between runs. Monitoring cannot make an engine recommend you. And a Claude result sampled through an API may differ from what a person sees in Claude's own app.

Verdict

If the job is purely "are we named?", several tools will tell you. If the job is "are we named, why, and what do we change?", the field narrows quickly to platforms that also track crawlers, citations and visits. That is the case for starting with Promptwatch, then comparing it against AthenaHQ and Scrunch AI for the price and workflow that suit your team.
