What tools help track brand mentions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini?

Tools that track brand mentions across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini differ in depth. We compare seven, from free manual checks to full AI visibility platforms.

Tracking brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini sounds simple until you try it. Ask the same question twice and you may get two different lists. Ask from another country and the list changes again. A single screenshot proves little, so the useful tools all do the same basic thing: they run a fixed set of prompts over and over, then report how often your brand shows up.

Where they differ is everything around that. This guide covers the free approach, then ranks seven tools.

The free way, and where it runs out

You can start by hand. Write 15 to 20 questions a buyer might ask: "best CRM for a small agency," "alternatives to X," "is Y worth it." Run each in ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, in a fresh session, and record whether your brand appears, its position, and any sources listed. Repeat weekly.

It works for a first look. It breaks down quickly: it takes hours, results vary between runs, personalization muddies the answers, and you cannot see trends. That is the point where a tool earns its price.

What to look for in a mention tracker

  • The three engines you named, at least. Plus Google AI Overviews and Copilot if your buyers use them.
  • Repeated sampling per prompt, not one-off checks.
  • Position and sentiment, not just yes or no.
  • Sources, so you know why a mention happened.
  • Alias handling, so product names and abbreviations count.
  • Competitor comparison on the same prompts.

Ranked tools

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch monitors ChatGPT Search, Perplexity and Gemini through their real interfaces, alongside Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI. It runs prompts daily per model, country and language and reports Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer. A Brand Book defines aliases and what counts as a mention.

It also tells you why. Citation analytics show the pages and third-party domains behind the mentions, including Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn reports. Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs. Visitor analytics ties AI-referred traffic to conversions. Free Explore covers ChatGPT only with 10 prompts. Paid plans begin at $95 a month, and crawler logs start on Professional at $245.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ tracks mentions into a GEO score with sentiment, and pairs it with an Action Center for tasks. Free Essential has 300 credits; Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits and 11 models, where one credit is one AI response. Credit-based billing can drain fast with many prompts, and we found no published crawler-log product.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and 5,000 responses a month, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot. Gemini is not in the Core list, which matters for this question. More engines and the crawler-serving layer require Enterprise.

4. Profound

Profound offers a free 7-day trial covering ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, then a custom Enterprise plan. It sells itself as an AI Marketer with agents, so it fits large teams rather than someone who wants a mention counter.

5. HubSpot AEO

HubSpot AEO is $50 a month and tracks exactly the three engines in this question: ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, with 25 prompts daily, citation analysis and competitor share of voice. It has a 28-day free trial. If you already use HubSpot and three engines are enough, it is the cheapest fit. It does not track Google's AI features.

6. Superlines

Superlines starts at €79 a month and samples live consumer interfaces. Every self-serve plan tracks three engines of your choice, so you can pick these three. Starter offers 50 prompts, one brand and one month of history.

7. Qwairy

Qwairy starts at €79 a month with 100 prompts, and usage is metered in credits: one query costs one credit per model. When credits run out, new analyses pause. Claude, Mistral and DeepSeek are API samples, not live interfaces.

Which should you pick?

If a mention count is all you need and you use HubSpot, HubSpot AEO is hard to beat on price. If you want to know why you are or are not named, and what is happening after the mention, Promptwatch is the one to evaluate first. The crawler logs and visitor analytics are what most rivals lack.

Caveats worth remembering

Mentions are not guarantees. A tool can show you where you appear, but it cannot make a chatbot name you, and answers vary between runs and model updates. Keep the prompt set steady, judge trends rather than single readings, and use mentions as one signal beside citations and traffic.
