What tools track visibility in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode? Compared for 2026
Which tools track visibility in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode: SEO suites and AI visibility platforms compared on coverage, local targeting, and pricing.
Google's AI answers are not one surface. AI Overviews sit on top of classic results. AI Mode is a separate conversational experience. A tool that tracks one does not always track the other, and a rank tracker built for blue links does not measure either. If your buyers start in Google, which most do, this is the gap worth closing first.
Here is what to check, then the tools, grouped by what kind of company built them.
What to check
- Both surfaces, by name. AI Overviews and AI Mode are listed separately in some tools and merged in others.
- How it captures. Real interface capture reflects what users see. API approximations may not.
- Location. Google answers vary by place, which matters for local and multi-market brands.
- Link to Search Console. Seeing your impressions and clicks next to AI citations tells you whether an AI surface is costing or earning traffic.
- Cadence. Answers vary between runs. Daily sampling beats weekly.
- What happens after tracking. A score alone does not help. You need citations, causes and actions.
AI visibility platforms
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch monitors Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode through the real interface, with ChatGPT (Search), Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI, and API tracking for Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok. Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language.
Two things stand out for Google. First, Local GEO/SEO targeting, introduced in October 2026, pins a monitor to exact coordinates (20 m to 5 km radius) so ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answer as if asked from that spot. It is available on Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise. State and city tracking start on Business and are also on every agency plan. Second, Search Insights overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster traffic on AI crawls and citations, which puts AI Overview citations next to your organic numbers.
Beyond tracking, it shows citation analytics (pages, domains, URL positions), Ads Radar for sponsored ads inside Google AI Overviews and AI Mode answers (Business plan and every agency plan), IP-verified crawler logs including Google-Agent and GoogleOther, visitor analytics and a content workflow. Explore is free but ChatGPT only, so Google tracking requires a paid plan from Essential at $95 a month.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ covers 11 models on Starter at $295 a month, with country-level support, credits at one per AI response and an Action Center. We did not find a statement on its pricing page that separates AI Overviews from AI Mode, so check which surfaces your plan includes.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month and tracks four LLMs including Google AI Overviews, with nine on Enterprise. AI Mode is not named among the Core engines on the page we read.
4. Profound
Profound tracks up to nine answer engines on its custom Enterprise plan, and its free trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. It is sold as enterprise marketing agents with AI search as one channel.
SEO suites with AI tracking
If your team already lives in an SEO suite, these keep Google data nearby:
| Tool | Google AI coverage | Price as recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | AI Overviews and AI Mode in the AI Visibility Index, which retests monthly | Custom Prompts free on paid Ahrefs plans; Index from $199/mo |
| SE Ranking AI Tracker | AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT | Core EUR 109/mo plus AI Search add-on from EUR 79/mo |
| Semrush AI Toolkit | Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity | $99/mo per domain per existing entry, not re-verified |
| Search Atlas | LLM Visibility module; platform coverage rises by tier | Suite from $99/mo; LLM Visibility from $199/mo |
Ahrefs retests its index questions monthly, which is slower than daily sampling, and its Custom Prompts have small daily quotas (5 on Lite, 10 on Standard, 20 on Advanced). SE Ranking counts one check as one prompt on one engine, so cost scales with engine count.
Lower-cost and specialist trackers
LLM Pulse lists Google AI Mode and AI Overviews as core engines from €49 a month with weekly default cadence. Ceyo captures Google AI Overview and AI Mode among eight engines from $39 a month billed yearly, with models capped per plan. Trackbase runs Google AI Overview and AI Mode among up to 11 models from €49 a month. CitedSpy lists both among 17 engines on every plan, from $19 a month, though our catalog notes it has no independent reviews.
Which should you pick?
- You want causes, not just scores, and local targeting: Promptwatch. It joins AI Overview and AI Mode tracking to crawler logs, citations, Search Console data and traffic.
- You live in Ahrefs or SE Ranking: try their AI add-ons first.
- You need an action-led workflow: AthenaHQ.
- You are testing on a budget: LLM Pulse, Ceyo or CitedSpy, with their caps in mind.
The limit
No tool can control what Google shows. Answers vary by location, device and time, so you are always looking at a sample. Track trends over weeks and keep expectations honest.
