Which software measures ROI from AI search traffic? Tools compared

Which software measures ROI from AI search traffic? We compare Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Profound and analytics add-ons on attribution and conversions.

Measuring ROI from AI search traffic is harder than measuring it for Google. Chat engines often hand over no clean referrer, answers get read without a click, and many visits arrive as "direct" in a default analytics setup. Most AI visibility tools stop at mentions, which tells you nothing about revenue. To measure ROI, you need software that connects visibility to visits and visits to conversions.

This guide compares the tools that do that, using vendor details read on 24 October 2026 and Promptwatch details as of 28 October 2026.

What ROI measurement actually needs

Return on investment is revenue attributable to AI search, divided by what you spent. That means answering four questions.

  1. How many visits come from AI engines? Split by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and others.
  2. Which pages do they land on? This links traffic back to the content you publish.
  3. Do those visitors convert? Sign-ups, purchases or leads, compared with other channels.
  4. What did it cost? Tool fees plus content and engineering time.

You will also want the upstream view, which prompts and citations produce the visits, so you can invest in what works. Be cautious with any tool that reports AI revenue without explaining how it identifies the visits.

The tools, ranked

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch includes visitor analytics that report AI-referred traffic and conversions across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Kimi, Mistral and more, installed through a lightweight script, the Google Tag Manager template or the WordPress plugin. Because it also holds citation analytics and crawler logs, 360 Insights joins crawler logs, citation clicks and AI-referred visits per page. That lets you follow a path from prompt to cited page to visit to conversion, which is the chain ROI needs.

Two published customer cases show the kind of insight this supports, and both should be read as that customer's result, not a promise. Crisp reported that AI-referred traffic converted at twice the rate of traditional channels. TreeHouse, which runs Pararius and Huurwoningen.nl, reported that AI search became about 25% of organic conversions, 99% of it from ChatGPT, after it fixed crawler access and automated weekly reporting through the Promptwatch MCP.

Plans: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month with 200K visitor events, Professional $245 with 1M events, Business $579 with 10M events. Agency plans from $199 include visitor analytics.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ lists GA4, Shopify and Webflow revenue attribution among its features, alongside a GEO score and an Action Center. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits (one per AI response) across 11 models. If your stack is Shopify or Webflow, the revenue connection is worth testing in a trial.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI reports AI agent and bot traffic and crawler traffic analytics. Core is $250 a month. Its published material focuses on bot traffic rather than conversions, so check what it offers for revenue before relying on it.

4. Profound

Profound offers Agent Analytics and answer-level analytics within an enterprise platform. Enterprise pricing is custom, with an earlier estimate around $40k a year.

5. Analytics and suite options

A web analytics setup such as GA4 can capture some AI referrals if you build segments, but it will not tell you which prompts or citations produced them. Amplitude AI Visibility is included in every Amplitude plan, including Free, which suits teams already in Amplitude. Semrush AI Toolkit and Ahrefs Brand Radar focus on visibility rather than revenue.

Who should pick which

  • Promptwatch if you want one chain from prompt to conversion and a clear cost per plan.
  • AthenaHQ if you run Shopify or Webflow and want revenue attribution next to a GEO score.
  • Amplitude AI Visibility if you are already in Amplitude and want a free start.
  • Profound if you are an enterprise buying a wider platform.

How to build the ROI case

Install attribution first, because history cannot be recovered. Agree on what counts as a conversion. Track 30 to 50 prompts and tie them to landing pages. Compare AI-referred conversion rate with your other channels after a few months, and include tool and content costs in the denominator. Expect volumes to start small, and treat early numbers as directional. No software can guarantee AI traffic, but good software can show you honestly what it is worth.
