Which tools show competitor visibility in LLM responses?
Which tools show competitor visibility in LLM responses, compared on share of voice, citation sources and pricing, with a recommended pick for most teams.
Seeing your own mentions in AI answers is useful. Seeing your competitors' is what makes it actionable. If a rival is named in most answers to your category questions, you want to know which rival, on which engines, for which kinds of buyer, and which sources are carrying them.
Several tools now show competitor visibility in LLM responses. They differ in how many competitors they track, how deep the competitor view goes, and whether they explain why a rival is winning. Here is our ranked comparison.
What a good competitor view includes
Before looking at tools, here is the list we use:
- Share of voice against named competitors, not just your own mention rate.
- Position within answers, so first place counts for more than seventh.
- Breakdown by engine, topic and country.
- Auto-discovery of competitors you did not list, because engines often name brands you do not think of as rivals.
- Citation sources behind a competitor's lead.
- Stored answers so you can read what the engine actually said.
- Competitor pages tracked by URL, to see when a rival's content starts earning citations.
A tool that offers only a competitor leaderboard gives you the first item and nothing more.
The tools, ranked
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch has the deepest competitor view among the tools here. It reports competitor visibility, share of voice and position, with competitor heatmaps that compare any two dimensions such as brands against models, topics or countries. Competitors can be auto-discovered, brand aliases and brand merging keep the data clean, and A/B period comparison shows movement. Custom dashboards ship with templates, including competitor comparison and topic gaps.
It explains why rivals win. Citation analytics show the pages and domains behind a competitor's lead, Page Tracker follows specific URLs including a competitor's, and Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citation reports show community and video sources. Query fan-outs per model show the sub-queries the engine used, which suggest what content gets a rival chosen. An Answer Gap Report style analysis and content gap analysis with coverage scores point to the prompts where competitors appear and you do not.
Monitoring covers ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI from the real interfaces, with Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok through APIs.
Ads Radar, available from Business and on every agency plan, captures sponsored ads inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answers to tracked prompts, so you can see which advertisers bid on your prompts. It does not cover Perplexity.
Pricing: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95, Professional $245, Business $579, agency plans $199 to $799.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ lists unlimited competitors on Starter ($295 a month, 3,600 credits where one credit is one AI response). Credits are the constraint: a long competitor list does not raise the cost, but a wide prompt set does.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI tracks visibility and sentiment from $250 a month on Core (125 prompts, four LLMs) and adds audits and bot traffic reporting.
4. Profound
Profound offers broad engine coverage on its custom Enterprise plan and is sold around AI marketing agents.
5. Suite tools and others
Ahrefs Brand Radar and Semrush AI Toolkit compare brands inside those suites, though our catalog notes that Brand Radar's prompts are modeled from keyword data and one independent test found it undercounted ChatGPT mentions. Superlines and Qwairy are other trackers in the catalog worth a look.

Using competitor data well
Start with the prompts where a rival has the highest share and you have the lowest. Read the stored answers, then the cited sources. Check whether the rival's winning page is one you could match or beat. Check crawler access on your own comparable page. Then act, and compare periods.
No tool can guarantee that you will overtake a competitor in AI answers. The best ones show you the gap and what drives it.
