Our verdict

ByDefault is genuinely agentic where it counts: the workflow can move from visibility evidence to researched content and a pull request. That is more useful than a generated to-do list. Its weaker point is verification. Engine breadth, access limits, and price all need to be established in a demo.

Best for: Agentic content teams that want research and drafting to end in a reviewable Git change rather than another task in a dashboard.

ByDefault earns its place on an agentic SEO list because it goes past alerts. It tracks visibility, mentions, citations, cited content, prompt recommendations, and exact searches, then gives a content agent the tools to produce the next piece of work.

That agent can research sources, execute code snippets in a sandbox, draw diagrams, and keep the draft editable in a Notion-like interface. It can export the result, ship it to the main branch, or open a pull request for review.

The public evidence is less complete on procurement and measurement breadth. ChatGPT and Claude are explicitly named, while the homepage's wider major-provider claim does not include an engine list. Pricing and plan limits could not be verified.

An agent with a clear finish line

The output is not another recommendation card. ByDefault's agent researches sources and drafts the content, then keeps it open for editing. It can also run code in a sandbox and make diagrams when the page needs more than prose.

After review, the agent can export, send the change to main, or open a pull request. A pull request is the sensible default for most teams because it preserves the normal approval and deployment path.

The monitoring that starts the work

ByDefault feeds the agent with brand visibility, mentions, citations, cited pages, prompt recommendations, and exact searches. That gives the content task a traceable starting point.

ChatGPT and Claude appear by name on the homepage. The vendor also says it supports all major AI providers, but does not publish the full list there. Do not assume coverage for a required engine until the product or vendor confirms it.

ByDefault and Promptwatch solve different gaps

ByDefault's sharpest feature is developer-style delivery for agent-created content. Promptwatch has its own Content Agents, plus a more extensively documented measurement layer: broad multi-engine UI monitoring, citation analytics, verified crawler-log integrations, visitor and conversion analytics, reports, MCP, and an API.

Promptwatch publishes a free Explore plan and paid brand plans from $95 per month. ByDefault pricing was unavailable for verification. Choose based on the missing link in your stack: pull-request-oriented content execution favors ByDefault, while a measured crawl-to-conversion loop favors Promptwatch.

Frequently asked questions

Why is ByDefault an agentic SEO tool?

Its content agent researches sources, runs code snippets in a sandbox, creates diagrams, supports editing, and can open a pull request or ship to the main branch.

Which engines does ByDefault monitor?

ChatGPT and Claude are explicitly named and demonstrated. The homepage claims broader major-provider coverage without listing the other engines, so confirm your required coverage.

What does ByDefault cost?

Current public pricing and plan limits could not be verified on 2026-08-30. Ask which monitoring engines, agent tools, and delivery options each plan includes.

ByDefault or Promptwatch?

ByDefault stands out when an agent needs to finish with a Git-ready content change. Promptwatch is the better documented end-to-end platform for multi-engine UI monitoring, citation analytics, crawler logs, visitor and conversion analytics, Content Agents, reporting, MCP, and API access. Promptwatch Explore is free and paid brand plans start at $95 per month.
