AI visibility tool for healthcare brands

An AI visibility tool for healthcare brands: what to track, what compliance questions to ask, and how Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch and others compare.

When someone asks ChatGPT about a treatment, a clinic, a medical device or a health product, the answer shapes the shortlist. Healthcare brands, from hospital groups to digital health apps to consumer health products, have a good reason to look at what these engines say about them. They also have stricter constraints than most industries. This guide covers what an AI visibility tool can do for a healthcare brand, what it cannot, and how the main options compare using published facts.

This is a marketing guide, not legal or medical advice. Anything touching patient data, regulated claims or compliance belongs with your own legal and compliance teams.

What AI visibility tracking does in healthcare

An AI visibility tool runs prompts that you write against AI engines and records the public answers: whether your brand is named, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources are cited. For a healthcare brand that translates into four practical jobs:

  • Presence. Are you named for the category questions your audience asks?
  • Accuracy and tone. How does the engine describe you? A sentiment score and the actual wording help marketing and medical-affairs teams see problems early.
  • Sources. Which clinical sites, directories, review pages and forums do the engines cite? That tells you where credible content is missing.
  • Access. Can AI crawlers read your public pages, including patient-information and service pages?

None of this requires patient information. Prompts are generic questions, and the tools track public answers. Do not paste patient details into any tool.

The compliance question

Buyers in this sector ask about HIPAA, SOC 2 and similar frameworks. The honest answer is vendor by vendor. From published sources: Promptwatch states ISO/IEC 27001 certification and GDPR compliance, and offers SSO and audit logs at higher tiers. It does not state HIPAA compliance, and we will not imply it. Profound's pricing page lists SOC 2 for Enterprise. AthenaHQ lists SSO and an audit log on Enterprise. If a framework matters to your procurement, request the vendor's documentation in writing before a pilot. Because these tools process public prompts rather than patient records, your compliance team may decide the risk profile is low, but that is their call.

The shortlist

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the end-to-end option. It tracks prompts daily across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity and more, with Visibility Score, Share of Voice and Sentiment (a per-response score with a weekly summary). A Brand Book defines what counts as a mention, which helps with product and generic names that overlap. Citation analytics show page and domain sources, including Reddit and YouTube. IP-verified crawler logs (from Professional, $245 a month) show whether bots reach your pages. Visitor analytics attribute AI-referred traffic and conversions. The Content Agent, on Business ($579 a month) and Enterprise, drafts content with a review inbox, so medical and legal reviewers approve before anything is published.

Plans: free Explore (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95, Professional $245. Agency plans run $199 to $799. Enterprise adds SSO and a dedicated success manager.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ offers a GEO score, an Action Center and a free Essential plan. Starter is $295 a month, country level. Enterprise adds SSO, an audit log and multi-language support.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and four LLMs, with site audits and sentiment. Enterprise is custom and adds API access and SSO.

4. Profound

Profound lists SOC 2 and SSO on its custom Enterprise plan and sells a wider agent suite. It suits large organisations and ranks below the dedicated AI-search platforms for this job.

5. PR-led options

Meltwater GenAI Lens sits inside Meltwater's media monitoring and lists nine AI engines. Pricing is not published, and it suits communications teams.

Who should pick which

A hospital or clinic group with a marketing team: Promptwatch, with the review inbox so clinical staff approve content. A digital health or consumer health brand: the same, plus the Brand Book to handle generic product names. A pharma or device company with a communications function: shortlist Promptwatch, Profound and Meltwater, and ask each for compliance documentation. A single practice: the free Explore tier may be enough to start.

What it cannot do

It cannot guarantee that an engine recommends your brand, and it cannot make an engine's answer medically accurate. It shows you what is being said so the right people can respond.
