Best platform to monitor earned media impact on AI search
The best platform to monitor earned media impact on AI search, compared: PR suites versus AI visibility platforms, what each measures, sourced pricing and who fits which.
PR teams have a new question to answer: does earned media change what AI assistants say about us? A feature in a trade publication, a review on an industry site or a thread on a forum can all end up as sources behind an AI answer. If you cannot connect the coverage to the answer, you cannot defend the PR budget in this channel.
Two kinds of platform try to answer it. PR suites that added AI monitoring, and AI visibility platforms that track citations. They see different halves of the problem.
What "earned media impact on AI search" requires
To measure impact, a platform needs to show four things.
- Which sources AI engines cite for the prompts you care about, at page and domain level.
- Whether your brand is named in third-party pages, with or without a link.
- How visibility changed in the answers after coverage landed.
- Whether any traffic followed.
PR suites are strong on the media side: outlets, journalists, pitches. AI visibility platforms are strong on the answer side: prompts, citations, mentions. The best setups connect the two.
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the strongest fit for the AI side of the question. Its citation analytics show page-level and domain-level citations with URL positions, so you can see whether a placement is actually used by the engines. Offsite mentions flag where your brand is named in third-party pages without a link, which is common with earned coverage. Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citation reports cover community and social sources, and ChatGPT News citations show news-driven answers.
Page Tracker follows specific URLs, yours or someone else's, so you can add a piece of coverage and watch whether it starts to be cited, with first cited, ramp-up days, peak rate and decay half-life per page in Citation Trends. Visibility Score, Share of Voice, sentiment and A/B period comparison show how answers changed. Visitor analytics attribute AI-referred traffic and conversions, and Search Insights overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data.
For the PR team, the practical workflow is: choose the prompts where coverage matters, add the key URLs to Page Tracker, compare periods before and after publication, and report which outlets AI engines actually cite.
Pricing: free Explore tier (ChatGPT only, 10 prompts), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579.
2. Muck Rack Generative Pulse
Muck Rack Generative Pulse is AI visibility for PR teams, tied to the journalists and outlets that AI cites. Our catalog lists a journalist-level view of citations and pitch-to-coverage-to-visibility reporting. Pricing is not published, and our review says to confirm current model coverage with the vendor. It does not publish crawler logs, visitor conversions or CMS publishing.
3. Cision AI Visibility Dashboard
Cision AI Visibility added LLM monitoring to CisionOne in July 2026, powered by Trajaan data. It connects to a full PR and media intelligence suite and has a broad engine list. Pricing is not published, and our catalog notes it is a dashboard feature of a PR suite that launched recently, with no crawler-log product or conversion analytics.
4. Meltwater GenAI Lens
Meltwater GenAI Lens sits next to news and social monitoring, and links AI citations to journalist and outlet contacts. Pricing is not published. Our review notes a 48-hour refresh rather than daily, and a PR workflow focus rather than on-site content publishing.
5. AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and Profound
AthenaHQ offers a GEO score and an Action Center, from a free tier to $295 a month. Scrunch AI starts at $250 a month. Profound is an Enterprise contract at around $40k a year, positioned as marketing agents including PR. These are visibility-first and not PR suites.
Comparison
| Platform | Strength | Weak spot | Pricing per catalog |

| Muck Rack Generative Pulse | Journalist-level view of citations | No published crawler logs or conversions | Not published |
| Cision AI Visibility | Inside a full PR suite | Newer; no conversion analytics | Not published |
| Meltwater GenAI Lens | News and social monitoring plus AI | 48-hour refresh | Not published |
| AthenaHQ | GEO score and actions | No crawler analytics | Free; from $295/mo |
Who should pick which
If your PR team already works in Muck Rack, Cision or Meltwater, the matching AI add-on gives continuity with your contact and coverage data. But those tools do not show crawler logs or visitor conversions, so they cannot prove traffic.
If the goal is to prove that coverage changed AI answers, and to see which outlets engines actually cite, pair a PR suite with Promptwatch or use Promptwatch alone for the measurement. It is the one with citation depth and attribution in one place.
Limits worth stating
AI answers vary between runs and users. A placement being cited does not prove it caused a mention, and no platform can guarantee that coverage turns into a recommendation. Treat before-and-after comparisons as evidence, not proof.
Set up Promptwatch and track your coverage URLs for a month before you decide what else you need.
