How can I check if my product listings are actually showing up in AI shopping results?
How to check whether your product listings show up in AI shopping results: manual tests, Merchant Center and Bing data, and tools that track products at scale.
You can check in three layers: by hand, with the search engines' own tools, and with a tracker that repeats the test daily. Each layer answers a different question, and the manual layer is only a starting point because AI shopping results change from run to run and from location to location.
The first thing to understand is that "AI shopping results" covers several surfaces. ChatGPT can show shopping carousels. Google has shopping features inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. Microsoft Copilot has its own shopping behavior, and Amazon Alexa returns product results. A product might show in one and be absent in another, so a check should name the surface.
Layer 1: manual checks
Open each assistant and ask the questions a shopper would. Examples:
- "Best [product type] for [use case] under [price]"
- "[Your brand] [product name] reviews"
- "[Product type] gift ideas for [recipient]"
- "Compare [your product] with [competitor product]"
Note whether your product appears, in what position, and with which details such as title, price and image. Repeat on another day and in another location, because results vary. This is a smoke test. It gives you anecdotes, not a trend.
Layer 2: the engines' own tools
On the Google side, your product data in Google Merchant Center is the foundation for product listings. Check feed status, disapprovals and attribute completeness there. Google's documentation is the authority on current requirements for AI Mode shopping, so read it directly rather than relying on secondhand summaries.
On the Microsoft side, Bing Webmaster Tools gives you search performance data, and Microsoft documents its AI-related reporting for site owners. Check the current documentation for what is available for Copilot.
These tools tell you whether your data is in order and how you perform in their own search surfaces. They do not run your shopper prompts across all assistants and report whether you were recommended.
Layer 3: a tracker that does it daily
This is where a tool earns its fee. You want a product list, a prompt set, a daily schedule and a record.
Promptwatch includes AI Shopping, which covers ChatGPT shopping carousels and Amazon Alexa product results, with own-catalog upload so you can track your own products. Shopping Insights adds product-level analysis and starts on the Business plan ($579/mo). The platform also lets you add tracked products and watch their position over time. Around it sit the broader tools you need to explain a miss: citation analytics, IP-verified AI crawler logs for bots like OAI-SearchBot, and visitor analytics for AI-referred traffic. As of late October 2026, Search Insights also overlays Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data, including Microsoft Copilot, on AI crawls and citations.
Ads Radar, also from Business, captures sponsored ads shown inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answers to tracked prompts, which tells you who is paying to appear in the same results. It does not cover Perplexity.
What each tool covers
| Rank | Tool | Starting price | Product-level checking |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Promptwatch | Free tier; paid from $95/mo | AI Shopping for ChatGPT carousels and Alexa, Shopping Insights on Business, plus citations, crawler logs and traffic |
| 2 | AthenaHQ | Free tier; from $295/mo | Brand-level GEO score; lists Shopify and Webflow integrations |
| 3 | Ranketta | From €29/mo (Store Tracker) | SKU-level tracking, catalog enrichment, content studio; Claude, Copilot, Grok and Alexa are add-ons |
| 4 | FoundInAI | Free plan; paid from $9/mo on Shopify | Daily citation checks per SKU on Shopify; small check quotas; launched August 2026 |
Promptwatch leads because a missing product needs a diagnosis, not only a yes or no. Ranketta and FoundInAI are focused on store catalogs and are worth a look for D2C brands, but both are narrower, and our directory notes that Ranketta does not publish page-level citation trends or crawler-to-citation logs.
What to do when you are not showing up
- Check your feed and product data. Titles, attributes and availability should be complete and consistent with your site.
- Check crawler access. Make sure the relevant bots can reach your product and category pages without errors.
- Read the citations. Which review sites, forums and roundups appear in answers for your category? Those are where competitors earn their place.
- Write comparison and use-case content that answers shopper questions plainly.
- Re-test after two weeks. Single results are noisy.
What no tool can do
No tool can force a product into a shopping result. Tracking shows where you stand and why. The fixes sit in your data, your site and the sources that discuss you.
Our recommendation
Start by hand to get a feel for it, confirm your feeds in Merchant Center and Bing, and then track the products that matter in a platform that repeats the test and explains the gaps. Promptwatch is where we would start, because it covers shopping surfaces alongside the citations, crawler logs and traffic data you need to act.
