Tools to track and optimize your content for ChatGPT and new AI search engines: a marketing manager's guide
Which tools help a digital marketing manager boost brand visibility on ChatGPT, track results and optimize content for AI search, with sourced prices and a clear pick.
If you are a digital marketing manager trying to raise your brand's visibility on AI platforms like ChatGPT, you need two kinds of tools and one decision. The two kinds are tracking tools, which tell you whether engines name you, and optimization tools, which help you change that. The decision is whether to buy them separately or as one platform. This guide ranks the options on both jobs, using each vendor's published pricing.
What you are buying
A tracking tool runs a set of buyer prompts on a schedule across engines and records whether your brand appears, in what position, with what sentiment and with which cited sources. An optimization tool helps you act: it points to gaps, drafts or refreshes content, and checks that the technical side works. Some products do only the first. A few do both, and fewer still connect them to crawler logs and traffic.
The distinction matters because a tracker alone leaves you holding a report. You still need to work out why you lost a prompt and what to write. The best-fit tool for a busy marketing manager is the one that shortens that gap.
The ranking
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch does both jobs, which is why it ranks first. On the tracking side, it monitors ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI through their real interfaces, with Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok tracked via API. Prompts carry volumes, difficulty scores and fan-outs.
On the optimization side, it adds an Action Board with a weekly Discovery agent, an Answer Gap report, Content Refresh with diff-style update suggestions, and on Business a Content Agent that plans, writes and publishes to WordPress, Webflow or Framer with a review inbox. It also has page-level citation analytics, IP-verified AI crawler logs and visitor analytics that attribute AI-referred conversions.
Plans: Explore is free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only). Essential is $95 a month, Professional $245 and Business $579. Crawler logs start on Professional and the Content Agent on Business. Agency plans start at $199 a month but do not include the Content Agent.
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ is a GEO platform with an Action Center and a content optimization agent. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits (one credit is one AI response) across 11 models, with unlimited topics, prompts and competitors. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons. Personas, a citation engine and SSO sit on Enterprise. It has a free Essential plan with 300 credits. The listing documents no crawler-log product.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI combines monitoring, site audits, sentiment analysis, recommendations and AI bot traffic reporting. Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts, 5,000 responses and four LLMs. Its Agent Experience Platform, which serves AI-optimized page versions to crawlers, is on Enterprise.
4. Profound
Profound is an enterprise platform that now sells agents for research, content and reporting. Enterprise is custom, with an earlier estimate of about $40k a year, and it offers a free 7-day trial. It suits large organizations more than a lean marketing team.
5. The suite add-ons
Ahrefs Brand Radar gives paid Ahrefs users Custom Prompts, with a daily quota of 5, 10 or 20 prompts depending on plan. HubSpot AEO is $50 a month and tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Semrush AI Toolkit is an add-on to Semrush. They are fine for a first look if you already pay for the suite.
6. Content tools
If you mainly want help writing, Outrank ($99 a month for 30 articles) and SEObot (from $49 a month for 9 articles) are agentic SEO tools that write and publish articles. Neither publishes prompt tracking, citation analytics or crawler logs, so pair them with a tracker. Surfer and Clearscope are content optimizers that have added AI tracking: Surfer has an AI Tracker with a Standard plan of $99 a month billed yearly (25 prompts, refreshed weekly), and Clearscope's Essentials is $129 a month for 50 tracked queries on ChatGPT and Gemini. They suit teams already working in those editors.
