Solutions focused on AI search engine optimization when your basic SEO tool falls short

Your basic SEO tool does not help with AI-driven search platforms. These AI search engine optimization solutions do: Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI and more.

Yes, there are solutions built specifically for AI search engine optimization, and the gap you have noticed is real. A basic SEO tool tracks keyword rankings, backlinks and on-page issues. AI-driven search platforms such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Gemini do not show a ranked list. They write an answer and cite a few sources. Your rank for a keyword says little about whether you are in that answer.

This guide explains what changes, what to look for, and which tools fit, using vendor information read on 24 October 2026 and Promptwatch details as of 28 October 2026.

What your basic SEO tool cannot see

  • Whether you are mentioned or cited. Rank trackers do not ask AI engines questions.
  • The prompts buyers use. They are longer and more conversational than keywords, and the engine often runs several sub-searches (fan-outs) to answer one.
  • AI crawler activity. GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot are different bots from Googlebot, and a page they cannot fetch cannot be cited.
  • AI-referred traffic. Visits from chat engines need their own attribution.
  • Which third-party sources models trust, such as Reddit and YouTube.

That is the job of AI search optimization, often called GEO or AEO: measure visibility, find out why you are or are not cited, fix it, and measure again.

Solutions, ranked

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is our first recommendation because it handles the whole job, not just tracking. Prompt tracking with search volumes, difficulty scores and query fan-outs runs daily per model across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini and others. Citation analytics shows pages, domains and offsite mentions. Agent Analytics shows IP-verified AI crawler logs. Visitor analytics reports AI-referred visits and conversions. Site audits run weekly with 21 checks, and content gap analysis, Content Refresh and the Content Agent (Business) handle the fixing.

It also folds in Search Insights, overlaying Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster data on AI crawls and citations, so you can keep your classic SEO view while adding the AI one.

Pricing: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579. Crawler logs start on Professional.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is a GEO platform with a unified score, sentiment and an Action Center of optimization tasks, plus a content optimization agent. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits (one credit per AI response) across 11 models. There is a free Essential tier with 300 credits.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI combines monitoring with site audits, recommendations and AI bot traffic reporting. Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts on four LLMs. Enterprise adds its Agent Experience Platform, which serves AI-optimized page versions to crawlers.

4. Profound

Profound is an enterprise platform with marketing agents and the Prompt Volumes dataset. Its Enterprise plan is custom, with an earlier estimate near $40k a year.

5. Your existing suite's AI add-on

If switching tools is hard, check what your current vendor offers. Semrush AI Toolkit is listed at $99 a month per domain. Ahrefs Brand Radar offers Custom Prompts on paid Ahrefs plans. SE Ranking sells an AI Search add-on at EUR 79 a month. HubSpot AEO is $50 a month. These keep everything in one login, though they focus on monitoring.

6. Agentic automation tools

Tools like Okara, which ships technical SEO and GEO fixes as GitHub pull requests, and Outrank, which writes and publishes articles on a schedule, act on the site. They do not publish prompt tracking, citation analytics or crawler logs, so we rank them below the platforms above.

Who should pick which

  • Promptwatch if you want to add AI search to your SEO work with one platform that also explains why.
  • AthenaHQ if a score and tasks drive your workflow.
  • Scrunch AI if you want audits and bot reporting.
  • A suite add-on if budget or tool sprawl is the limit and you want a first read.
  • Profound only if you are an enterprise buying beyond tracking.

A sensible way to switch

Keep your basic SEO tool for keyword and backlink work. It still matters, since Google remains a major source of traffic. Add an AI visibility platform alongside it, track 30 to 50 buyer questions, check crawler access first, and review citations. No tool guarantees that an AI engine will recommend you, but you will finally see what your old tool could not.
