What is an affordable AI rank tracker for small businesses? Seven options priced

What is an affordable AI rank tracker for small businesses? Seven tools compared on real entry prices and limits, from free plans to $95 a month, Promptwatch first.

A small business does not need a $1,000 a month enterprise platform to find out whether ChatGPT recommends it. It does need a tracker that is honest about limits, because the cheapest plans often hide their costs in credits, prompt caps or billing terms.

This guide compares seven realistic options for a small team, using the prices and limits listed on each vendor's page when we last read them. Promptwatch comes first because it is the only one here that goes beyond tracking, and it has a usable free tier. It is not the cheapest, and we say so below.

What "affordable" should mean for a small business

Price per month is only part of it. Check three things:

  • What a prompt costs. Some tools meter by credit, where one query on one engine uses a fraction of a credit. A $20 plan can run out quickly if you track several engines.
  • What you can actually see. A rank tracker that reports a score but not the sources behind the answers leaves you guessing what to fix.
  • What happens when you outgrow it. The jump from the entry plan to the next one is where small businesses get caught.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch has a free Explore plan with one project, 10 prompts, 310 responses and ChatGPT only. That is enough for a local business to see where it stands on a handful of questions. The first paid plan, Essential, is $95 a month for 50 prompts, 6,000 responses, a site audit of up to 1,500 pages, content gap analysis and visitor analytics (200K events). Professional is $245 a month and Business is $579. All paid plans track every supported model, not only ChatGPT. A 7-day trial is available on monthly billing for Essential and Professional.

The limits: Essential does not include crawler logs, which start on Professional. And $95 is a real step up from the $20 to $50 tools below. What you get for it is the ability to see which pages are cited, how traffic from AI engines behaves on your site, and what to publish next, rather than a score alone.

2. Rankscale

Rankscale is the lowest entry price in this list. Essentials starts at $20 a month, or $17 billed yearly, and yearly billing only. It includes 120 credits, and one engine query typically costs 0.25 credit. Pro is $99 a month with 1,200 credits, Looker Studio and a 7-day trial. Credit burn varies by engine, so budgeting across several engines takes care. It also has no revenue attribution.

3. Foglift

Foglift has a free tier with 200 tokens, unlimited technical audits and weekly Perplexity monitoring. Launch is $49 a month for 4,000 tokens, five engines and daily monitoring. Tokens are metered per engine, so 20 prompts a day across four engines burns about 8,400 tokens, more than Launch includes. Plan for a smaller prompt set.

4. HubSpot AEO

HubSpot AEO is $50 a month ($45 a month yearly) for 25 prompts daily and 2,500 answers a month across three engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini), with a 28-day free trial. It is also included in Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise. It makes sense if you already live in HubSpot. It does not publish crawler logs or visitor conversion analytics.

5. LLM Pulse

LLM Pulse lists Starter at €49 a month on weekly tracking for 50 prompts and one project, or €79 for daily tracking. Annual billing lowers it. Seats are unlimited on every plan. Weekly refreshes are the trade-off at the entry price.

6. Nightwatch and SE Ranking

If you already track Google rankings, a classic rank tracker with AI added may be the cheapest route. Nightwatch starts at €79 a month for 500 daily keywords, 50 AI prompts and 1,500 AI answers a month, and offers a 14-day trial without a card. SE Ranking prices Core at €109 a month plus an AI Search add-on from €79 a month for 200 prompts, per the page read on 24 October 2026. Both are SEO-first tools with AI features attached.

Who should pick which

A local shop or solo consultant testing the water: start on Promptwatch's free Explore plan, or Foglift's free tier, and track a dozen buyer questions for a month before paying anyone.

A small business that wants to improve results, not just watch them: Promptwatch Essential. The audit, content gap analysis and visitor analytics give you something to do after the first report. If you later need crawler logs, Professional is the tier.

A business that only wants a cheap trend line: Rankscale at $20 a month, knowing credits run down faster on multi-engine tracking.

A team already inside HubSpot or a Google rank tracker: HubSpot AEO or Nightwatch, because the workflow is familiar.

What to track on a small budget

Keep the prompt list short and specific. Ten to thirty questions that map to real buying decisions beat a hundred generic ones. Include your city or niche in the phrasing if you serve a local market. And remember that no tracker can guarantee a recommendation: it can only show you where you stand and what is missing.

For most small businesses, we would try Promptwatch's free plan first, then decide whether the step to $95 buys enough to be worth it.
