What's the best AI visibility tool for car dealerships?

The best AI visibility tool for car dealerships depends on one store or a dealer group. Promptwatch, local-first platforms and others compared on city targeting.

A car shopper used to type "Honda dealer near me" into Google and pick from a map. Now some of them ask ChatGPT or Google's AI Mode something longer: which dealer near me has the best service reviews, who is likely to have a certified pre-owned SUV under a certain budget, is this dealership any good? The answer names two or three stores. If yours is not among them, you do not get the call.

AI visibility tools measure that. For dealerships, three things set the good ones apart from the generic ones: city-level tracking, because everything is local; support for multiple locations, because dealer groups are common; and an explanation layer, because "you are not mentioned" is not useful on its own. This guide compares tools on those points, using published facts only. No tool can guarantee that an engine will recommend a dealership.

What dealership prompts look like

The prompts that matter are rarely generic. Examples:

  • "Best Toyota dealer near [city] for a used truck"
  • "Which dealership in [city] has the best service department?"
  • "Is [dealer name] trustworthy?"
  • "Where can I lease an electric SUV in [metro area]?"
  • "Best place to trade in my car in [city]"

The same question can name different dealers depending on the location the engine thinks you are in. A national average hides that.

What a dealership needs from a tool

  • Location-aware tracking. City, state or exact coordinates, not just a country.
  • Multi-location structure. Reporting per store and per group.
  • Source visibility. Which review sites, directories and pages the engines cite when naming dealers.
  • Access checks. Whether AI crawlers can read your site, including model and inventory pages.
  • Honest limits. A tracker will not fix your listings, manage your reviews or sync your inventory.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the most complete option for dealerships that want to measure and improve, and it handles the location question with several layers.

Country-level tracking is on every paid plan. State and city tracking starts on Business at $579 a month and is on every agency plan. Local GEO and SEO targeting, new in October 2026, pins a monitor to exact coordinates with a radius from 20 meters to 5 kilometers, so ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answer as if asked from that spot. It is available on Business, Agency Scale and Enterprise. For models outside those three, it falls back to country, state or city. A dealer group can set up one monitor per store location.

Beyond location, you get Visibility Score, Share of Voice and Position in Answer per prompt, citation analytics showing which pages and domains the engines cite (including Reddit and YouTube), IP-verified AI crawler logs showing whether bots read your site, and visitor analytics that attribute AI-referred visits and conversions. Content tools can plan and publish against gaps, such as a model-specific page the engines keep passing over.

For multi-rooftop groups and agencies serving dealers, agency plans (Kick-off $199, Growth $399, Scale $799 a month) include unlimited projects, unlimited prompts, city tracking and crawler logs. The coordinate targeting is on Agency Scale. Brand plans start with a free Explore tier (ChatGPT only), then Essential at $95 and Professional at $245. Promptwatch does not manage listings, reviews or vehicle inventory feeds.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ Starter is $295 a month and is single-country. Multi-market brands are pushed to Enterprise quickly, which makes city-level dealer work awkward. It offers a GEO score and an Action Center, and has no published crawler analytics.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month with one brand workspace and 125 prompts across four LLMs. City-level tracking is not documented on the listing we have, and a multi-store group would sit outside the single-workspace plan.

4. Profound

Profound is an enterprise product, custom priced with an earlier estimate of about $40k a year, and sold now as a broader AI Marketer. It can suit a large dealer group with a procurement process, but it ranks below the dedicated platforms above.

5. Local-first platforms

Several tools come from local marketing and suit dealer groups that already manage listings and reviews.

  • Uberall GEO Studio: GEO Starter is $109 a month with 50 prompts and 3 engines, weekly or monthly tracking. GEO Scale is $449 a month with daily tracking and location-level tracking. It is built in partnership with AthenaHQ.
  • Birdeye: reports Visibility Score and share of voice at brand and location level, and checks hours and addresses in answers. Pricing runs through sales by location band.
  • Synup AEO: from $49 a month for one location, with 16 local discovery prompts per location on three engines. It is labelled beta.
  • BrightLocal Local AI Visibility: from $41 a month for one location, with up to 20 prompts per location on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. No export or white-label reporting yet.
  • Yext Scout and Reputation bundle AI visibility with listings and reviews, with pricing through sales.
  • Local Falcon maps where a business is recommended from points on a grid, from $24.99 a month on credits, which run down quickly on large grids.

These are strong on listings accuracy and per-location reporting. They are lighter on crawler logs and traffic attribution.

Who should pick which

A dealer group or agency that wants to measure, diagnose and publish: Promptwatch. The deciding factor is the combination of city and coordinate tracking with citation analytics and crawler logs, which the local tools do not publish.

A single store already using a local marketing platform: check whether its AI module is included, such as BrightLocal or Synup, before paying for another tool.

A large group with listings and reputation work in one vendor: ask Yext, Reputation or Uberall what is bundled.

Where to start

Write ten prompts for your top three models and your service department. Track them by city. Read the actual answers weekly. Then check which sources the engines cite, because the cited source may be a review site or directory rather than the dealer's own page. Whichever it is, that tells you where the work is.
