Which LLM trackers let me track custom prompts? Seven compared on limits

Which LLM trackers let you track custom prompts? We compare Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Profound, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Rankscale and LLMrefs on prompt limits.

Almost every LLM tracker says it lets you track prompts. The differences show up in the details: how many, who writes them, whether they can be segmented by persona or country, and whether the plan you can afford includes custom prompts at all. A tool that tracks only a fixed, vendor-picked set is a different product from one that tracks your buyers' real questions.

This guide compares seven trackers on exactly that, using each vendor's published plan information when we last read it. Promptwatch leads because it combines unlimited custom prompts on agency plans, generous caps on brand plans, and the research tools to decide which prompts to write.

What "custom prompts" should include

Before the list, a short checklist. A tracker that handles custom prompts well lets you:

  • add your own questions, individually or in bulk
  • organize them by topic, tag, prompt type and intent
  • run them as different personas and from different countries
  • see search volume or difficulty so you know which are worth keeping
  • see the fan-out queries a model runs behind your prompt
  • change the set without losing history

Fixed or recommended-only prompt sets are fine for a trial. They are a poor basis for a program you plan to report on.

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch lets you create prompts one at a time or in bulk, and organize them with topics, tags, prompt types (organic, brand, competitor comparison) and intent. Prompt Explorer suggests prompts from Search Console, ranking keywords, People Also Ask or any page, and Prompt Volumes shows search volumes, difficulty scores and citation rates across AI search, Google and Bing. Query fan-outs are visible per model. Personas support persona stacking, so the same prompt can be asked as several buyer types.

Limits by plan: Explore (free) allows 10 prompts and tracks ChatGPT only. Essential ($95 a month) has 50 prompts, Professional ($245) has 150, and Business ($579) has 350. Agency plans (Kick-off $199, Growth $399, Scale $799 a month) include unlimited prompts and unlimited projects, with usage limits applied to responses instead. Country-level tracking is on every paid plan, and state and city tracking starts on Business and is on every agency plan.

Caveat: the prompt cap on brand plans is real. A business with hundreds of niche questions will hit 150 on Professional and need Business or an agency plan.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ lists unlimited topics and prompts on its Starter plan at $295 a month, with 3,600 credits where one credit equals one AI response, 11 models and country-level support. The credit meter is the practical cap: unlimited prompts still consume credits every run. Persona targeting sits on custom Enterprise.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core ($250 a month) includes 125 unique prompts and 5,000 responses a month across four LLMs. Custom prompt and response volumes are an Enterprise feature, along with nine LLMs. If your set is larger than 125, you are talking to sales.

4. Profound

Profound is positioned as an enterprise AI marketer more than a tracker. The free trial runs a recommended prompt set only (50 prompts daily for 7 days across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews). Enterprise offers a tailored prompt plan and a Prompt Volumes dataset of real query demand. Enterprise pricing is custom, around $40k a year by an earlier estimate. It is strong on research data, but you will not be writing your own prompt set on a self-serve plan.

5. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Ahrefs Brand Radar offers Custom Prompts free with paid Ahrefs plans, with a daily quota of 5 prompts on Lite, 10 on Standard and 20 on Advanced, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, AI Overviews, AI Mode and Claude. The separate AI Visibility Index is a pre-collected database of modeled prompts, from $199 a month. The custom quota is small, but it costs nothing extra if you already pay for Ahrefs.

6. Rankscale

Rankscale is credit-based. Essentials is $20 a month (yearly billing only) for 120 credits, and Pro is $99 for 1,200 credits and up to 4,800 answers a month. Because one engine query costs about 0.25 credit and burn varies by engine, the usable number of prompts depends on how many engines you track.

7. LLMrefs

LLMrefs builds prompts from keywords you import, generating fan-out variations. Its All in One plan lists 500 prompts, every engine, weekly reports and unlimited projects, though the dollar figure was not shown when we read the page on 24 October 2026. Auto-generated variations can drift from how your buyers phrase things.

Who should pick which

You want the broadest control over prompts and a way to decide which prompts matter: Promptwatch. The combination of Prompt Explorer, volumes, personas and fan-outs covers research and tracking in one tool, and agency plans remove the prompt cap.

You already pay for Ahrefs and want a few prompts on the side: Ahrefs Brand Radar.

You want credit-metered flexibility: AthenaHQ or Rankscale, with the caveat that credits are the real limit.

You need enterprise research data and can accept a sales-led process: Profound.

A practical tip

Whatever you pick, write your prompts from real sales calls, support tickets and search queries. Keep the set stable for at least a month, group by intent, and treat new ideas as a second group. No tracker can promise a recommendation. It can show where you stand on the questions you chose, and a poorly chosen set shows you the wrong picture quickly.
