Affordable AI Rank Tracker for Small Businesses: Pricing

Published prices for the cheapest AI rank trackers, and why a small business should judge them on whether ChatGPT sends visitors who buy, not on whether it mentions the brand.

A small business doesn't have a GEO budget. It has a marketing budget, usually one person spending it, and an owner asking a blunt question: is ChatGPT sending us customers or not?

That question should decide how much you pay for an AI rank tracker. It's a different question from "are we mentioned," and most cheap trackers only answer the second one.

Below are the published prices from our catalog for the tools a small business is likely to shortlist, then the plan we'd actually start on and why.

The price ladder

Our pick comes first. The rest are sorted by entry price, with Otterly at the end.

What the cheap tiers actually measure

A $20 tracker answers one question well. When someone asks an AI engine a prompt you picked, does your business show up? That's worth knowing, and for some owners it's enough.

Read the fine print our catalog records, though. Rankscale's credits burn at very different rates depending on the engine, roughly 8x apart, so 120 credits across "all engines" goes less far than it sounds. LLMrefs refreshes weekly, and LLM Pulse defaults to weekly. SE Ranking counts one prompt on one engine as one check, so its 200 checks spread over five engines works out to 40 prompts. Encited is an agent toolkit first, and its AI visibility tracking covers 15 to 100 prompts depending on the plan.

Then the gap that matters most for a small business. Per their catalog entries, none of these trackers publishes conversion tracking for visitors who arrive from AI engines. LLM Pulse lists AI traffic analytics, but not conversions. The others don't list either.

The question a small business needs answered

Say you run a bookkeeping practice. ChatGPT names you when someone asks for a bookkeeper who works with freelancers in your city. Good. Did anyone click through? Did they book a call?

A mention without that answer is a vanity metric with a monthly bill attached.

This is why we'd skip the $20 tier and start on Promptwatch Essential at $95/mo. It costs more. What the difference buys is visitor analytics: a lightweight script or a Google Tag Manager template that counts visitors arriving from AI engines and tracks whether they convert, with 200K visitor events a month on Essential. You see which prompts mention you and whether those engines send people who buy.

Essential also includes five AEO articles a month from Content Agents. That's the agentic part, and for a one-person marketing team it may be worth more than the tracking itself. The agent plans from a content gap analysis of prompts where you're missing, drafts the page, and you approve it in a review inbox before it publishes to Webflow or Framer. WordPress is listed as coming soon, so a WordPress site means copying drafts across by hand for now.

Prompts can also carry country, state and city targeting, which matters when your customers are local and a national answer tells you little.

Start free, then decide

Promptwatch Explore costs nothing: 10 prompts, ChatGPT only, one project, one seat. That's enough to check whether you show up at all for your ten most important questions.

If you don't show up anywhere, a tracker won't fix that. Content will. If you do show up, the next question is traffic, and traffic is what Essential measures. Essential comes with a 7-day trial, and annual billing charges ten months for twelve, which adds up on a tight budget.

What Essential doesn't include is crawler logs. Agent Analytics, which shows when ChatGPTBot or PerplexityBot fetched your pages, starts on Professional at $245/mo with a 25M crawler log allowance. Most small businesses can wait on it. It earns its price when you've published fixes and nothing moves after a few weeks, because the logs tell you whether the engine read the page at all.

When a cheaper tool is the right call

Be honest about your situation. If you only want to know whether ChatGPT and Perplexity mention you, and you'll write every fix yourself, LLMrefs' free tier or Rankscale at $20 covers that. If you already pay for SE Ranking or Mangools, try the AI module you already have before you buy anything new.

If you have a developer who lives in Claude or Cursor, Encited's $19 MCP server is worth a look. It still sits below Promptwatch for this job, because its tracking allowance is small and it publishes no crawl-to-citation logs or AI-referred conversion data.

AthenaHQ has a free tier of roughly 300 credits and a Starter plan at $295/mo. Its Action Center is a stronger action queue than any tracker in the table, but $295 is past most small-business budgets for a single tool.

Otterly.AI's $29 Lite plan covers 15 prompts on four base engines. Gemini, Claude and AI Mode are paid extras, and the catalog notes data can be up to seven days old.

Our pick

For a small business that wants to know whether AI search pays, Promptwatch Essential is the cheapest plan in this list that publishes conversion tracking for AI-referred visitors, and it writes and publishes the pages that fill your gaps. Start on Explore. Upgrade when the free prompts show you're in the answers and you want to know what that's worth.
