Top AEO tools in 2026: answer engine optimization platforms compared

A ranked comparison of the top AEO tools for answer engine optimization, covering tracking, citations, crawler logs and content, with published prices and who each suits.

AEO, answer engine optimization, is the practice of getting your brand named and cited in answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and similar engines. The tools sold under that label are not all doing the same job. Some measure, some write, some do a little of both. This ranking sorts them by how much of the AEO workflow each one actually covers.

What an AEO tool should do

AEO has four jobs, and a complete tool handles more than one:

  1. Measure. Track a set of prompts across engines and report whether your brand is mentioned, where, and against whom.
  2. Diagnose. Show why: which pages are cited, which crawlers visit your site, and where competitors win.
  3. Act. Turn the diagnosis into a prioritized list of fixes or new content.
  4. Prove. Connect AI answers to real visits and conversions.

Most entrants do the first job well and stop. The ranking below rewards tools that go further.

Ranking

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch covers all four jobs. Measurement comes from daily prompt panels per model, country and language, with Visibility Score, Share of Voice, Sentiment and Position in Answer. Diagnosis comes from citation analytics (pages, domains, Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, offsite mentions) and Agent Analytics, which logs IP-verified AI crawler visits. The Action Board produces a prioritized GEO to-do list, and a Discovery agent suggests up to five evidence-backed actions per weekly run. The Content Agent (Business and Enterprise) plans, writes and publishes pages to WordPress, Webflow or Framer, with a review inbox. Visitor analytics attributes AI-referred traffic and conversions.

Prices: free Explore plan (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579; agency plans $199, $399 and $799. Crawler logs start on Professional. The 7-day trial applies to monthly billing.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ is a generative engine optimization platform with an Action Center and a content optimization agent. Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits and 11 models. Credits are consumed one per AI response, so heavy tracking uses them quickly. Its listing documents no crawler-log product and no Reddit monitoring.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI tracks four LLMs on its $250 a month Core plan (125 prompts, 5,000 responses a month) and adds site audits and AI bot traffic reporting. Enterprise adds its Agent Experience Platform, which serves AI-optimized page versions to crawlers.

4. Profound

Profound is an enterprise platform that now describes itself as an AI marketer, with agents for research, content and reporting, plus Answer Engine Insights and Agent Analytics. The public page lists a free 7-day trial and custom Enterprise pricing, with earlier estimates near $40k a year. It is a buying decision for large teams.

5. Goodie AI

Goodie AI sells a closed-loop AEO platform: tracking plus agents that write and optimize content. Core is $295 a month for five models and 110 prompts, Pro is $999. It also tracks agentic commerce surfaces. Check which tier includes crawler analytics before buying.

6. SEO suites with AI tracking

Semrush AI Toolkit adds AI mention tracking to Semrush at $99 a month per domain according to the existing entry, which we could not re-verify on the vendor page. Extra domains, users and prompts cost extra. Ahrefs Brand Radar includes Custom Prompts with paid Ahrefs plans, with an AI Visibility Index from $199 a month. HubSpot AEO is $50 a month standalone ($45 yearly) and tracks three engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini), with a 28-day trial. All three suit teams already living in those tools.

7. Value trackers: LLM Pulse and Qwairy

LLM Pulse starts at €49 a month with five engines, unlimited seats and an MCP server, at weekly cadence by default. Qwairy starts at €79 a month, credit-metered, with crawler analytics only from its €449 Business plan.

8. Agentic AEO fixers: Okara

Okara ships technical fixes such as schema, llms.txt and canonicals as GitHub pull requests that you approve. Plans start free, with AI CMO Lite at $129 a month. It fixes rather than measures, so it pairs with a tracker.

Who should pick which

Promptwatch for the one-platform approach, measurement through to traffic. AthenaHQ for a task-driven team that accepts credit billing. Scrunch AI for content-heavy sites interested in serving crawlers a separate version. HubSpot AEO for a HubSpot shop that wants a cheap three-engine start. Profound for enterprise buyers with a procurement process.

Reality check

AEO tools report on probabilistic systems. The same prompt can return different answers on different days, and no tool can guarantee a mention. Judge a tool by whether it helps you find real gaps and fix them, and keep the prompt set stable so trends mean something.
