Top answer engine optimization tools in 2026, ranked

The top answer engine optimization (AEO) tools in 2026, ranked: Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Profound and HubSpot AEO, with sourced pricing and who each suits.

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of getting your brand named and cited in the answers that ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot generate. Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the same idea under another name, and most vendors use the two interchangeably. What matters when you shop is not the label but whether a tool does the three jobs AEO needs: measure where you appear, explain why, and help you change it.

Some tools only do the first. They are prompt trackers, and they answer "was my brand mentioned?" A smaller number add the second and third. This ranking weighs that heavily. Prices below come from the catalog entries on this site, read on the dates noted there.

How we ranked

  1. Coverage of the whole job: monitoring, citation analytics, crawler visibility, traffic attribution and content.
  2. Model coverage on the plan you would actually buy.
  3. Transparency of pricing.
  4. Fit for a normal marketing team, not only an enterprise procurement process.

Agentic tools that produce content or fixes sit below the platforms that also measure, because producing content without knowing whether engines cite it is guesswork.

The ranking

1. Promptwatch

Promptwatch is the end-to-end platform in this list. It tracks prompts daily across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity, Amazon Alexa and Meta AI, plus API models. Citation analytics go down to pages, domains, Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn. Agent Analytics reads IP-verified AI crawler logs and shows a citation rate per page. Visitor analytics counts AI-referred sessions and conversions. Content gap analysis feeds a Content Agent (Business plan) that plans, writes and publishes with a review inbox, and Action Board turns the data into a prioritized to-do list.

Plans: free Explore (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579. Crawler logs start on Professional.

2. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ combines tracking across 11 models with an Action Center and a content optimization agent. Free Essential tier with 300 credits; Starter is $295 a month with 3,600 credits. Credit billing means broad tracking uses allowance fast, and no crawler-log product is published.

3. Scrunch AI

Scrunch AI Core is $250 a month for 125 prompts and four LLMs, with site audits and bot traffic reporting, and an Agent Experience Platform on Enterprise.

4. Profound

Profound is an enterprise AI marketer with agents for AEO, content, demand and PR. A free 7-day trial exists; Enterprise is custom, with an earlier estimate of around $40,000 a year. Strong for large programs, less so as a focused tracker.

5. Goodie AI

Goodie AI Core is $295 a month with five models, 110 prompts and 50 optimization actions, and it tracks commerce surfaces such as Alexa and Walmart Sparky.

6. HubSpot AEO

HubSpot AEO is $50 a month, or included in Marketing Hub Pro and Enterprise, with 25 prompts daily on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. A low-cost starter for HubSpot teams.

7. Suite add-ons

Semrush AI Toolkit is listed at $99 a month per domain with 25 prompts (not re-verified recently). Ahrefs Brand Radar includes Custom Prompts with paid Ahrefs plans, and an index from $199 a month. Enterprise SEO suites such as Conductor and BrightEdge publish no prices.

8. Agentic content and fix tools

Okara ships technical fixes as GitHub pull requests, from $129 a month. Outrank publishes 30 articles a month for $99. They act, but they do not publish crawler logs, citation analytics or prompt tracking, so pair them with a measurement platform.

Who should pick which

  • A team that wants measurement, diagnosis and action in one platform: Promptwatch.
  • A team that will work an action queue daily: AthenaHQ.
  • A HubSpot shop starting small: HubSpot AEO.
  • A large brand with an agent-driven program: Profound.
  • A team that needs fixes shipped and already has a tracker: Okara or Outrank alongside it.

What no AEO tool does

None can guarantee an engine will cite you. The tools show where you stand and what to change. The change itself is ordinary work: pages that answer the question, bots that can reach them, and mentions on sources engines trust.
