Top competitive intelligence tools for AI search
Top competitive intelligence tools for AI search: see who AI engines name instead of you. Promptwatch, AthenaHQ, Scrunch AI, Profound and others compared.
Competitive intelligence for AI search answers a sharper question than "do we appear?" It asks who appears instead of you, for which prompts, supported by which sources, and with what framing. The best tools let you see a competitor's share of voice, the pages that earn them citations, and the places where they win when you lose.
This ranking covers the tools that do that, using vendor details read on 24 October 2026 and Promptwatch details as of 28 October 2026.
What competitive intelligence needs in AI search
- Competitor share of voice across a prompt set you control, by topic, model and country.
- Citation intelligence. Which competitor pages and third-party sources get cited, and how that differs from yours.
- Framing. How the engines describe rivals compared with you: sentiment and position in the answer.
- Discovery. Competitors you did not know to track.
- Ads and commerce signals. Who pays to appear in AI answers, where those formats exist.
- A route to act, because intelligence nobody uses is just a report.
The tools, ranked
1. Promptwatch
Promptwatch is the most complete option for competitive work. It reports competitor visibility, share of voice and position, with competitor heatmaps that compare any two dimensions, auto-discovered competitors and brand merging. Prompt panels run daily per model, country and language across ChatGPT (Search), Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Copilot, Gemini and others.
The citation side is where it separates itself. Page Tracker follows specific URLs, yours or a competitor's. Citation analytics shows pages, domains, Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn citations, and offsite mentions where a brand is named in a third-party page without a link. Citation Trends classifies citations by content type and source type, so you can see whether a rival wins on listicles, reviews or forums. Ads Radar, on Business and every agency plan, captures sponsored ads inside ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode answers: advertiser, ad copy, landing page and the triggering prompt. It does not cover Perplexity.
Then you can act: content gap analysis (the Answer Gap Report) shows topics rivals cover that you do not, the Action Board prioritizes tasks, and the Content Agent (Business) can publish against gaps. Monks, an agency, uses the Answer Gap Report and Visibility Score for client content roadmaps.
Plans: Explore free (10 prompts, ChatGPT only), Essential $95 a month, Professional $245, Business $579. Ads Radar starts on Business or any agency plan ($199, $399, $799).
2. AthenaHQ
AthenaHQ offers unlimited competitors on Starter at $295 a month, a GEO score, sentiment and an Action Center. Starter has 3,600 credits (one per AI response) across 11 models. Credits are the constraint on how many prompts, competitors and models you can run daily.
3. Scrunch AI
Scrunch AI lists competitor benchmarking alongside site audits and bot traffic reporting. Core is $250 a month with 125 prompts and 5,000 responses on four LLMs.
4. Profound
Profound reports citation share and answer-level analytics, with a Prompt Volumes dataset of real query demand. Enterprise pricing is custom, with an earlier estimate near $40k a year.
5. Evertune and suite add-ons
Evertune benchmarks brands across 11 models with up to 100 samples per prompt per model, and sells ChatGPT ad campaigns built from visibility data. Prices are not published. Ahrefs Brand Radar reports brand and competitor mention share with Custom Prompts on paid Ahrefs plans. Semrush AI Toolkit offers competitor share comparisons at a listed $99 a month per domain (unconfirmed).

Who should pick which
- Promptwatch if you want to know why a rival wins and be able to respond from the same platform.
- AthenaHQ if unlimited competitors and a task list matter and you can budget credits.
- Scrunch AI if benchmarking with audits suits your team.
- Evertune if you want research-grade sampling and accept a sales process.
- An Ahrefs or Semrush add-on if you want a first competitive read inside a suite you own.
Using it well
Track a fixed competitor set so share of voice stays comparable, and add newly discovered rivals deliberately. Look at citations before you look at content: the answer to why a rival wins is often a source, not a page of theirs. Read trends across weeks, since AI answers vary between runs. No tool can guarantee you overtake a competitor, but the good ones show exactly where the gap is.
